A High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced a man, accused of armed robbery, to death by hanging.
The accused, Isa Abdulkareem, is said to committed the crime on 19 December, 2016 in Ureje, an area in the state capital.
At the trial, held on Friday, the prosecuting lawyer, Gbemiga Adaramola, said that Abdulkareem robbed one Mr. Taiwo Olomola of 110, 000 Naira and some Tecno phones, using a gun and a cutlass as his weapons.
“Abdulkareem also robbed one Adeya Olalekan of N74, 000 and an Infinix Note 2 phone. The two-count charges of conspiracy and armed robbery contravened Section 402 (2) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.” Adaramola said.
While the defendant, Mr. Adeyinka Opaleke, called only the accused as the sole witness, his opponent, Adaramola submitted the accused confessional statement, two guns, five live cartridges, and some phones. To all these, the accused pleaded not guilty to the crimes.
While delivering his verdict on Friday, Justice Mosunmola Abodunde, said that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubts and consequently found the defendant guilty as charged.
But in a nation where terrorists have been granted pardon and are being pampered like babies, Mr. Abdulkareem must now be regretting for choosing the wrong profession.
