Atiku Calls for Unity in the fight against CoronaVirus

Former Nigeria’s Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has called on Nigerians to unite and show oneness of purpose in the fight against the Coronovirus outbreak.

Alhaji Abubakar stated this on Thursday, after reports emerged from the Ministry of Health that an Italian National had tested positive of the virus in the Lagos.

The former PDP Presidential flagbearer also urge the government of President Buhari to intensify efforts in containing the outbreak in the country, saying this is not the right time to apportion blames.

“We must call upon our experience with the Wild Ebola Virus, of which we were the first nation in the world to defeat that scourge in 2014. How did Nigeria do it? We achieved it by showing unprecedented unity. The federal government of the day worked closely with the Lagos and Rivers state governments. There was complete unity, solidarity and oneness of purpose, which created the atmosphere that defeated that deadly infestation.

“I strongly counsel that any tendency to blame and point fighters must be temporarily, if not permanently, suspended. If fingers must be pointed, it must be to solutions.”

He called on the government and people of Nigeria not to panic, saying the country can contain the virus the same way it was able to prevent Ebola virus from spreading.

“Nigeria must not panic. Whether at government or individual levels. We have defeated Ebola before, and we can defeat this present predicament,” he concluded.
