Fifty-one (51) suspects have been arrested by the Borno State Police Command for various offences in the past one month in the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Edet Okon stated this on Tuesday while parading the suspects on Tuesday in Maiduguri.
According to Okon, the suspects were apprehended at different times and locations in February 2020, for various offences such as culpable homicide; robbery, rape, cattle rustling, theft, receiving stolen properties and impersonation.
He listed other offences to include attempt to commit felony; cheating by impersonation, criminal trespass, intimidation and injurious falsehood as well as causing grievous hurt and extortion.
Okon said two of the suspects (name withheld) were arrested on Feb. 9, at Melari in Gubio Local Government Area of the state after engaging in free-for-all fight leading to the death of one person.
He said that two other suspects (name withheld) were arrested for allegedly hitting one person identified as Tela with pistle on the head as a result he died at a hospital.
The police spokesman added two other suspects (name withheld) were arrested on Feb. 6, at Jidari Polo Area of Maiduguri for alleged murder of one, Abdullahi Abubakar.
Okon explained that the suspects stabbed the deceased with a sharp knife on the left eye, neck and abdomen, adding that the victim died at a hospital.
He added that the command also arrested one suspect (name withheld) on Feb 6, for allegedly raping a 14-year-old house help (name withheld) at his residence in Tudun Wada Area of Maiduguri.
“Additionally, the command equally arrested a 40-year-old man (name withheld) at Fori ward in Maiduguri for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a 13-year-old girl (name withheld), while one other suspect (name withheld) was arrested for allegedly raping a 5-year-old girl on Feb. 24.
“The suspects will soon be charged to courts,” he said.
