Goals from Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire were enough to beat an out of soughts Chelsea side at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
The home side started brightly but United grew into the game and eventually took control and in the end restricted the home side to just a shot on goal.
Martial opened the scoring with a superb header after Wan-Bissaka’s cross on the 45th minute. Chelsea went into the break with not just a goal down but also with Kante down with injury.
And it was game over early in the second period when Maguire, who opened his Manchester United account with an audacious drive in the FA Cup, powered in a header from a Bruno Fernandes corner. Maguire escaped a red card earlier even with a VAR check, in what was just one of many other VAR interruptions, as the home team had two goals ruled out by VAR.
Frank Lampard made some changes, replacing Batshuayi with Giroud, but it was not enough to change things for them as the game was already well out of their reach by then.
Ighalo replaced Martial one minute into extra time to mark his Manchester United debut.
This was the first time United had completed a league double against Chelsea since the 1987/88 season. Chelsea has lost all 7 games at home this season in all competitions.
Chelsea remain 4th with 41 points, despite the loss, while United moved up to 7th with 38 points.
