The senate said Wednesday that they have finally we moved a step closer to reviewing the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with the inauguration of a 56 man committee to handle the exercise.
The 56 man committee is chaired by the Deputy President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.
President of the senate, Ahmad Lawan who passed the information on his twitter handle stated that, “I am confident that this constitution review will create an opportunity for our dear country to be a place where citizens would not only feel fulfilled, but will also enjoy the happiness and prosperity that will come with it”.
He said that “an enhanced constitution is a good starting point and it is the reason why I call on all stakeholders to be involved.
“I appeal to all those who feel strongly about any issues that requires constitutional review to make their case so that we are able to capture them.
“This committee has been so constituted to ensure adequate representation of all parts of the country. Apart from principal officers who are members, each state of the federation is represented by one Senator and the six geopolitical zones are represented by two senators each”.
