The Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) Task Force on illegal tax activity has arrested an impostor for defrauding unsuspecting tax payers.

The impostor, one Tyowua Nelson, was arrested trying to fleece innocent tax payers using fake receipts, parading as BIRS agents.

Mr. Tyowua who was arrested at Joyful Academy College, Gaadi Extension Layout, Makurdi where he was attempting to defraud the school under the guise of revenue agent for BIRS.

He was arrested with fake receipts and payment orders bearing BIRS.

The fraudster has since been handed over to the Police for onward prosecution.

Meanwhile the Executive Chairman, Mr. Andrew Ayabam has maintained that it will not rest on its oars until the tax system is sanitized while reminding the general tax paying population to ensure that all payment’s are made via BIRS official bank accounts or Point of Sales (POS) machines through a certified BIRS staff.
