Jolly Nyame’s Jail Sentence affirmed by the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Friday, upheld the sentence of former govenor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame by both the FCT High Court and the Court of Appeal.

A five-member panel of the Apex Court, led by Justice Mary Odili, had unanimously affirmed that the sentence of 14 years by the high court, and later reduced to 12 year by the Court of Appeal, in May 2018 and November 2018 respectively, stands.

According to the lead judgement read by Justuce Amina Augie, the 12 years jail term given by the appellate court has been sustained but the aggregate 495m fines the court imposed have been removed.

The former governor of Taraba state was convicted for diverting N1.6bn that was meant for security votes, funds for grains and presidential visit.
