A former Nigeria’s Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has advised President Mohammadu Buhari and Nigerians in general, not to rationalize killings in the country, whether Muslims, Christians, atheist or Traditionalist.
Atiku’s advise is coming on the heels of the president’s declaration that ’90 per cent of all Boko Haram’s victims have been Muslims’.
It could be recalled that President Buhari in an article published in Speaking Out, a guest opinion column for “Christianity Today”, while reacting to allegations by CAN, said the perception that members of the sect were always targeting Christians in Nigeria is not true. The article quoted the president as saying “it is the reality that some 90 per cent of all Boko Haram’s victims have been Muslims,” Buhari said.
While reacting to the president’s statement on his social media handle, the former PDP presidential candidate said every life matters, urging all to condemn the killing of every Nigerian citizen unequivocally, without religious bias.
According to Atiku, “We must not rationalise killings. Whether Christian, Muslim, Traditionalist, or Atheist, the killing of any human being, by Boko Haram, or any other misguided group, is wrong and should be condemned unequivocally. There is no compulsion in religion. Only love”, he concluded.
