Following the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus, the House of Representatives on Tuesday rejected a motion for the evacuation of Nigerians in China.
According to the Lawmakers, who voted massively against the motion, moved by Representative, Benjamin Okezie, China has better facilities to handle the situation than Nigeria.
Recall that Nigerians in the coronavirus ravaged city of Wuhan, China, had called on the federal government to evacuate them from the city, lamenting that they “are trapped.”
The virus was first diagnosed in the city and data released by the Chinese authority shows that there are over 17,408 infected patients of which 2,298 are under critical condition.
So far, 362 deaths have been recorded globally while 508 patients have been cured of the virus.
Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila had tried in vain to calm the lawmakers and allow Okezie to move his motion, the legislators denied him the opportunity.
