Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Sanwo-Olu has vowed that his administration will deal decisively with pipeline vandals in the state.
Sanwo-Olu, who disclosed on his twitter handle @jidesanwoolu on Monday following Sunday’s night condoled with families and businesses affected in the incident.
He also commended members of LASEMA and the fire service officials for their efforts to reduce the impact of the fire.
He said: “My thoughts and prayers are with the families & businesses affected in the unfortunate incident at Abule Egba. We are thankful for the brave members of LASEMA & our fire service that swung into action working all night to reduce the impact. Pipeline Vandals will be shown no mercy.
“We must work together to ensure man made incidents like Abule Egba are avoided. Security and information gathering along volatile corridors will increase and a stronger synergy with communities must happen. We all have a role to play.”
The fire incident was said to have been caused by activities of vandals at Ile Epo around the Abule Egba axis, thereby sending many persons scampering for safety.
The vandals were said to have ruptured the pipeline in a bid to scoop fuel when the explosion took place.
The estimated value of the properties lost to the incident could however not be ascertained at press time, but sources said the damage would cost several millions of Naira.
